Showcase: ESB Christmas Card 2010

ESB (Electricity Supply Board) is an Irish semi-state electricity company. As one of the largest companies in the country, with about 7000 employees, it is composed of several distinct organisations: ESB Networks, ESB Power Generation, ESB Customer Supply and ESB International.

Design Brief

Based on the success of the previous year's project, we were once again tasked by ESB to create a digital Christmas Card. The Flash card was sent to all ESB employees and ESB's corporate partners, in line with the ESB's environment policy.

The client wanted a winter scene with cosy, well-lit homes covered in snow with a scrolling display to showcase the many different activities of the ESB, including overseas charity work, electric car initiatives, standard maintance work, and sports & clubs support.

A series of images of the company's activities were incorporated, along with Christmas music and an animated winter scene, night sky & wind turbines (pause, play & volume controls were incorporated, along with a very special 3D snow-storm effect).

Feedback from the Client

Patrick Casey Design created the 2010 Christmas Card for ESB. Their design reflected both the traditional Christmas and ESB's long service to Ireland going back over 80 years. All of our messages were incorporated clearly and cleverly, and the cards were extremely well received both internally and externally. The guys at Patrick Casey Design were a pleasure to deal with, and were always happy to give their time to ensure we were a satisfied customer.

Ingredients

This project was designed and mocked-up in Photoshop CS5. The development was done in Flash CS5, using AS3 actionscript, and it was all held together in a tidy little HTML/CSS framework.
